2023
The war in Ukraine inspired Belgians to unprecedented solidarity. Citizens opened their homes, politicians cancelled compulsory visas. Yet we’re still much less welcoming towards non-European war refugees. As an NGO that fights for solidarity and justice, 11.11.11 had to expose this unequal treatment of war refugees. When a new Secretary of State was appointed, we immediately addressed her with a visually striking print on the back cover of De Morgen. It showed the tragic differences between a Ukrainian and a Syrian family on the run, by rewriting the crucial elements of each sentence in red pen.
